What is Osteopathy?

System of ‘bodywork’/manual therapy
Osteopathy is a system of ‘bodywork’/manual therapy based on unique biomechanical principles, which uses a wide range of techniques to treat Musculo-Skeletal problems and associated functional disorders of the body.
Osteopathy is a way of detecting and treating damaged parts of the body such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and joints. When the body is balanced and efficient, just like a well tuned engine, it will function with the minimum of wear and tear, leaving you with more energy for living.
Osteopathy is a well established profession around the World especially in the US, UK, Continental Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
How Does Osteopathy Work?
Osteopathy improves mobility of affected joints while relaxing the muscles around those joints. Treatment might include soft tissue (muscle & ligament) techniques, rhythmic joint mobilization, corrective manipulation or adjustments and gentle pressure point release techniques.
What Can I Expect When I Visit the Osteopath?
The case history, motion studies, orthopedic & neurological tests are performed to identify the problem. Osteopaths use a highly developed sense of touch called Palpation to identify specific misalignment, weakness & strain. Additional investigations such as X-ray or blood tests are required in some cases. After the diagnosis is determined, a suitable treatment plan can be developed for that specific problem.
